The latest single from the Grammy-nominated Secrets Keep You Sick is unprecedented for the punk-pop band. Written on the heels of his mother’s death, Dan Castady blurs the line between his own perspective and his father’s, the result an empathetically heartfelt rock ballad with ambiguous lyrics. What the song lacks in clarity, however, is made up by its cathartic emotion and sheen. A sonic brother to Linkin Park’s recent “Shadow of the Day,” this captivating tune would fare well at Top 40 radio if ever pushed. Forgive the quoting out of context, but as Castady penned, “this will linger on.”
